Angel Mario Román-López, 65, of Davenport, FL, died Monday, November 2, 2009 at James A. Haley VA Medical Center, Tampa.
Mario was born in Hatillo and raised in Arecibo, both cities in Puerto Rico. In 2000 he and his family moved to Florida to enjoy his retirement. He graduated with a MBA in Finance from the Inter-American University in Puerto Rico. His professional career included roles of increasing responsibilities as Accounting Manager for Merck & Co., Endo Pharmaceuticals, Director of Finance for Roche Pharmaceuticals for 17 years and Director of Finance for the Puerto Rico Water Authority. He was a US Army Veteran of Vietnam, earning the rank of Specialist Fourth Class. He was an active member and attended Ridge Assembly of God and Manantiales de Bendición churches. Mario was an avid sports fan including baseball and basketball. He was passionate about exercising and competitive cycling, earning several awards. He served as a Scout Master and volunteered with non-profits such as Teen Challenge. He was best known for assisting and serving others, no matter the project.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Isabel Medina; two sons, Angel Mario of San Francisco, CA and Alex Roman of Kissimmee, FL; a daughter, Isamar Roman of Winter Haven, FL; a brother, Heriberto Roman; three sisters, Ayxa E., Milagros E., and Ada N. Román, all of Puerto Rico; and six grandchildren.
Family will receive friends for Memorial Service at 5:00 PM on Thursday, Nov. 5th at Manantiales de Bendición, 704 McLeod Ave., Haines City, Florida. Interment rites with Military Honors by Marion County Memorial Honor Guard will take place at 10:30 AM on Friday, Nov. 6th at Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Avenue, Bushnell, FL 33513.
